With shear determination and a little bit of naivety, Kyle and I set out early Monday afternoon to talk to DNC attendees – and maybe snag some credentials.
There was excitement all around the convention, not to mention foolproof security. The strategy of just looking like we belonged and walking right in was not going to work. Plan B: ask everyone with a laminated piece of paper around their neck if they had an extra. This tactic got a lot of laughs and a few “good luck” shrugs from passersby.
Near the end of our Day 2 mission, I struck up a conversation with this guy at the bus stop. He said he was here with “The Troublemakers.” I had to find out what this meant, so I started asking questions. He is an EMT for protestors. He helps all those who seem to find themselves maced, gassed, pushed and dragged during many events such as these. He told us about a protest that was happening at the Colorado Mint later in the day. That evening I saw on the news several protestors were arrested at the demonstration. But I didn’t see him. I’m hoping his services weren’t needed after all.
I'm a guy in Atlanta with a blog & a video camera. I've got a crew of friends who like to help me out, whether it's sneaking into NYC's Fashion Week, Bobbing for Pig's Feet at the Redneck Olympics, or just knowing what's going on around Atlanta. Check in, watch some videos, & see what's up. Or sign up & get involved! Vote on the next kyle.tv episode! Or suggest your own ideas for us! We're up for anything! So who knows what will happen next!
