So we attempted to go to the Unconventional ’08 concert last night. Although we got a late start, we were hopeful our trusty wristbands would get us in the see at least some of the music.
We were wrong.
It seemed the entire Youth Caucus and more than a few Denver scenesters had the same plan we did. When we arrived Z-Trip was finishing his set on the outdoor stage – mixing his usual frantic beats with clips from Obama’s past speeches. Although this outdoor area was hopping, the real place to be was inside the galllery for the VIP event. Sarah Silverman (who we caught a glimpse of on the street) was making a special appearance, along with a special performance by some indie darlings – Zooey Deschanel, Ben Gibbard and others.
The scene was truly a sea of people all yelling at friends inside the gallery to let them in, as the securty guards outside were yelling at them to “get back.” It was a clusterfuck. We mingled in the madness for a minute, then decided it really wasn’t worth it.
Luckily, two from our crew had discovered another party happening next door. Entrance was free. Beer was free. That’s all the convincing we needed.
The party was held by Bus Fed, an organization that helps register young voters. A fellow blogger I met at the party told me they host super cool events to promote political involvement and activism. Last night they were promoting Trick or Vote, a nationwide nonpartisan initiatives to register voters on Halloween night. They had music powered by bikes, graffiti artists, open bar, and lost of really cool people to meet and exchange thoughts with.
All in all, it was a good night. Even though we didn’t make it into the “exclusive” party we had planned to go to, we ended up at a really cool event. Who needs celebs anyway, when you can hang with the hippies and drink free beer. Now, that my kind of scene.
I'm a guy in Atlanta with a blog & a video camera. I've got a crew of friends who like to help me out, whether it's sneaking into NYC's Fashion Week, Bobbing for Pig's Feet at the Redneck Olympics, or just knowing what's going on around Atlanta. Check in, watch some videos, & see what's up. Or sign up & get involved! Vote on the next kyle.tv episode! Or suggest your own ideas for us! We're up for anything! So who knows what will happen next!
