Sunset is the recording project and band of Bill Baird. Based in Austin, TX, Bill Baird has been performing and recording under the name Sunset and other variations of that name since 2006, with an equally shifting cast of bandmates. Currently the live band is Bill Baird (guitar, keys, voice) , Jon Kolar (drums), Willis McClung (guitar, bass, voice), Sam Miller (guitar), Will Patterson (keys, tape loops), Michael Bain (keys, bells).

Sunset explores folk roots songcraft and incorporates a variety of musical and recording influences into the process.  They currently have two full length albums out, Bright Blue Dream and The Glowing City, with plans of a 7″ single release in October. Their psychedelic shoegazy pop sounds have gained them comparisons to Beck, Eno, Pink Floyd and more.

Singer-songwriter Bill Baird has put together a beautifully lo-fi collection of songs he’s calling {{{Sunset}}}. The Austin, TX native imbues his homey tunes with a quirky, playful bounce, helped by instruments like a toy piano. The result is a bare and innocent album that sounds as though a friend were strumming songs just for you in his living room…

The Tripwire
Bright Blue Dream is a sonic landscape awash with electronic blips and beeps, reverb-heavy lead guitar and Baird’s signature hopping bass. Although that may seem like a perfect description for a sophomore release from his previous act Sound Team, this is a whole different beast altogether. The whole album is aural candy.

This singer/songwriter is channeling something that has led to the creation of the must-hear prog-folk record of the summer. The Glowing City is a smorgasbord of sound that seems to have been crafted in a toy factory with a tape machine and an ethereal piano. Bill Baird took some chances recording this music, and you should take a chance listening to it…the effects could be emotional.

Bright Blue Dream…is a dense and adventurous affair that finds Bill Baird exploring his wide-ranging sonic influences, from Syd Barrett-esque experimental pop to expansive ambient noise soundscapes that recall Eno and Morricone.
