It’s 3:38a Atlanta time (2:28a Tennessee time… we rejoiced when we realized we gained an hour) and Crissy and I are sitting in the hospitality tent for press/guests. We’re waiting for a shuttle back to the hotel. And while we do, there’s wifi, cute people, and beer.
Today has been a lesson in learning… the logistics, the layout of the land, what our passes actually mean, and what the hell is going on here. I’ve never been to Bonnaroo. Not only that, I’ve never been the guest of an artist at Bonnaroo. So there’s sort of a double whammy.
When we finally arrived at the hotel we were picked up by shuttle and, after a bit of a drive, were taken down a dark road in the forest, David Lynch style.
We drove through the back end of the festival, which sort of looked like you’d expect.
We were dropped off behind the main stage and then walked around a bit to check things out. It was a bit of a madhouse… and a bit muddy. We walked out into the main part (it was so nutty that when we crossed from the back to the front I had to turn to Emily – Margaret’s manager – and ask if we “crossed over into the thick of it yet.”) Indeed we had.
We went and found some friends who were in the massive crowd waiting to see Phish. I have to admit, I’ve never listened to Phish or were interested. But the opening number they did was pretty excellent. All the glo-necklaces people were throwing up in the air definitely helped.
We left Phish and headed over to “This Tent” to catch Crystal Castles. We passed a regular entry point and – at midnight – was still going strong. It sorta reminded me of an 1113 Halloween party. (Heh.)
Crystal Castles was intense and awesome and shit.
We left CC to go catch Public Enemy and then went to coordinate a shuttle back to the hotel. We just missed one so we’re waiting 45 minutes or so until the next one. So, I write.
Tomorrow is going to be really good. Not only do I have a better handle on what’s going on between stages and such but I have an idea of how things are laid out backstage. I had this idea before coming up to buy a bunch of “Tennessee” postcards and get as many artists to sign them as possible. Tomorrow I am squarely on that mission. I already have one signed. :) (No telling who yet.)
More tomorrow!
I'm a guy in Atlanta with a blog & a video camera. I've got a crew of friends who like to help me out, whether it's sneaking into NYC's Fashion Week, Bobbing for Pig's Feet at the Redneck Olympics, or just knowing what's going on around Atlanta. Check in, watch some videos, & see what's up. Or sign up & get involved! Vote on the next kyle.tv episode! Or suggest your own ideas for us! We're up for anything! So who knows what will happen next!
