Pecha Kucha 14 is happening in Atlanta this Sunday. What is Pecha Kucha? Well…
a presentation format in which content can be easily, efficiently and informally shown, usually at a public event designed for that purpose. Under the format, a presenter shows 20 images for 20 seconds apiece, for a total time of 6 minutes, 40 seconds.
It was devised in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Tokyo’s Klein-Dytham Architecture (KDa), who sought to give young designers a venue to meet, network, and show their work and to attract people to their experimental event space in Roppongi.[1] They devised a format that kept presentations very concise in order to encourage audience attention and increase the number of presenters within the course of one night. They took the name Pecha Kucha from a Japanese term for the sound of conversation (“chit-chat”).
Klein and Dytham’s event, called Pecha Kucha Night, has spread virally around the world. More than 170 cities now host such events.
I went to number 13 last month and it was truly great. This time around, I’ll be one of the speakers. The title of my slide presentation is “48 Hours.” Vague? Well, yes. It’s supposed to be. Come see what it’s all about.
Pecha Kucha happens at 7pm at Octane on the west side. Get there early! It gets packed!
I’m still recovering a bit from the whole mayoral run so in the meantime I wanted to post a couple videos from the whole experience. I didn’t have time to blog them while I was running so here are some of the finer moments.
First of all, our campaign commercial as directed by Raegan Hodge.
A second by Caroline Smith.
Fox News on my “Outsider” Candidacy.
A report by Channel 2 on my “controversial” blog! Soooo scary!
And lastly, a piece Creative Loafing did on the whole story of me running (and how it started and such).
So it’s been a minute since I’ve had time to post. Running for mayor was no joke. But I’ve done it, Election Day is behind me, and I’m looking forward to what happens from here.
As many of you know, I got into the mayoral race to have IMPACT. Whether that meant I won or got 1%, I was able to stand up for my community and let our city leaders know that we’re all serious. We deserve a safe, functional, and well-managed city. I was happy to stand up for that.
But let me be honest too, I’m glad it’s over. If I ever run again I’ll have a whole new game plan and way of going about it. For now, it’s back to me! I have plans for Atlantans Together as well as some ideas for City Hall, but I’m chillin’ til the end of the year. I need it. The new fight begins in the new year.
In the meantime – if you were to ask “hey Kyle, whatcha gonna do next?” – I’m going to Disney World!
Today was amazing. Even though I wasn’t let into the WSB/APF mayoral debate on public safety, I was able to stand with my community in response to the raid on The Eagle. Now, I’m putting together the final touches on the brand new website. I am going to launch it in the morning! So stay tuned. I shall let you know!
There was a raid at The Eagle last night in Atlanta. A lot of questions remain unanswered. I’m utilizing everything in my power to bring the APD and the gay community together in an open forum. We need answers. I, like many others, do not want to jump to conclusions but, as Danni Lynn Harris (Atlanta’s liaison to the GLBT community) said:
the volume of complaints she’s received from Eagle customers suggest an investigation is warranted.
I’m going to try and leverage ATAC against the needs of this community and see if we can’t pull something together. Stay tuned.
Eight months ago I was the victim of violent crime. It changed my life. My neighbors, my friends, and my community have been increasingly affected by the rise of crime in this city. That is why I am in this race.
I invite people to read my website and be their own judge of my character. I have stood up, organized rallies across the city, and am in this for one reason: to build a better Atlanta for all of us.
Here’s the fan page. Check it out. And hey, register to vote. Local elections affect you most of all!
Oh, and as always, feel free to donate to the cause!
I'm a guy in Atlanta with a blog, a video camera, and a library of a whole lotta randomness. I've been known to stalk a rock star or two. Or to sneak my way into Fashion Week. Or to bob for pig's feet among Rednecks. Whatever it is, I'll probably be breaking the rules and having a lot of fun doing it.
