Hello Atlanta!

29 Jan 2011 In: atlanta

Just had to freakin’ share this. High today: 65 degrees. One of many, many reasons living in the South kicks Yankee butt. (Never mind Snowpocalypse 2011… we’re beyond that now.)

A Breakthrough of Synthetic Gasoline?

27 Jan 2011 In: news

So check this out. Apparently UK-based Cella Energy has created a hydrogen-based, synthetic gasoline that has no carbon emissions. Oh, and it can go in our cars right now. From the article, released yesterday:

UK-based Cella Energy has developed a synthetic fuel that could lead to US$1.50 per gallon gasoline. Apart from promising a future transportation fuel with a stable price regardless of oil prices, the fuel is hydrogen based and produces no carbon emissions when burned. The technology is based on complex hydrides, and has been developed over a four year top secret program at the prestigious Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford. Early indications are that the fuel can be used in existing internal combustion engined vehicles without engine modification.

At first I was like, “wha? This is a joke.” Then I did a little research and found some uber-science guys delving into the chemistry of it and all that shit. So it appears to be a bit more serious.

Can it be true? Just think how great that would be. (Anyone care to find me The Onion originator article or assure me that this might, indeed, be true?)

State lawmakers are looking to plug the $2 billion budget shortfall, in part, with liquor bottles. Legislation has been proposed at the state capital to allow locals to vote on whether to allow Sunday alcohol sales. I’m pretty sure if we Atlantans were asked we respond with a resounding “hell yeah.”

Newly-elected Nathan Deal says he won’t veto the legislation if it passes. And it’s making national news. From the Wall Street Journal:

Lawmakers submitted a bill this week to grant cities and counties the authority to hold local votes to allow Sunday sales. Georgia’s new governor, Republican Nathan Deal, said he wouldn’t veto the legislation, a break from the position of former Gov. Sonny Perdue, his predecessor.

Several states in the last decade have lifted or modified bans on Sunday alcohol sales. Along with Georgia, only Indiana and Connecticut have such laws on all forms of alcohol, with bills now introduced in all three states to end the prohibition.

Looks like it could happen this year!

This is definitely one to check out if you’re up for something to do tonight. This is the bio from their Facebook page:

Little Victory is the gay Fleetwood Mac. The Electric Shade Orchestra.  The punk Dorian Corey. Hide your lovers.

I love it already! They’re playing tonight with Atlanta’s own Falcon Lords.
